Insecure Writer's Support Group - August 2014

This group posts every first Wednesday of each mont. Twitter hashtag is #IWSG

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It's a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer's Support Group day. Post your thoughts on you own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling.

Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time.

Be sure to link to IWSG page and display the badge in your post.

Thank you to our host Alex J. Cavanaugh and his co-hosts for today: Sarah Foster, Joylene Nowell Butler, Lily Eva, and Rhonda Albom!  Please visit them to thank them for helping out today.

So, this summer has been really good to me and I couldn't have done it without the help of some amazing author friends.
#1 - Our boxed set hit USA Today for four weeks straight in July
#2 - I finally got a good taste of what it feels like to have a nice selling series with June and July being my best months ever.

Yet, I'm feeling a bit anxious. I want to sustain the momentum of readership and it's slowly dropping (which I expected). The residual sales from the boxed set have been absolutely amazing AND I found so many new readers - my mind is blowing up!

We're releasing another set this December (for which I have yet to write the novel). With the success of the first one I'm now convinced that's the best way to get discovered. The book in the set acts as a pull in for the reader. Of course not everyone who purchases the set will go to read the rest of the series, but even if a small percentage does, the rewards are absolutely amazing!

So, time at this moment is definitely an issue as I need to have all 4 books in my series sort of figured out (which I sort of do) before I can write this prequel for the boxed set. (hence my anxiety)

Sheesh, if someone ever tells me being an author is easy I will smack them over their head. It's a lot of work. It's a business like any other. And I'm grateful that I love it.

Are you writing anything new? What are your insecurities this month?

That's awesome, Marta!! Sounds like a boxed set is the way to go. Wish I could do that.
And a big thank you for posting for three years straight for the IWSG.

As someone who can take four months to write a short story, I'm impressed you'll be able to write a novel. It sounds like a great project, though, especially when you see your other sales increase :-)

I'm working on a new/old project. And it's scary because it means something to me and I' dealing with controversial things that will cause certain people to call me names.

I'm glad to hear about the success of your box set. Sounds like a good way to find new readers.
