F is for Flying

Flying (adj): 1. making flight or passing through the air; that flies: a flying insect; an unidentified flying object.
Those of you who know me, know how much I hate flying. To the point that I need to be "tipsy" before I get to the airport, but not too much so I can pass through security. So it's natural I would pick this topic for F for the A-Z Challenge.
I would never get on one of these.

Or these - there's a pattern here:)

Would be cool to fly in this one - not that I would! (source)
But I'm really hoping someone will invent teleportation, just like in Star Trek :)
Do you have a secret to get rid of the fear of flying?

I can just about understand how the early planes flew, but heavy metal with thousands of pounds of people on it SHOULD NOT FLY. I'm not convinced about teleporting either - did you ever see the Star Trek prequel film where teleporting was new and Kirk (?) hated the idea?
IF you find the secret, let me know. I've flown ONCE and never again. It's the claustraphobia for me not the height.
Flying invokes terror in me too, although if I could take the controls I think I'd feel better. I'm waiting for Sky Cars to become mainstream. And affordable. :)
Sitting next to someone you love helps ... or who makes you laugh. Great if you can arrange both!
Thank you for your very kind words on my blog. They helped my flagging spirits immensely! Roland
I've never been afraid of flying. I hate the security theater involved now, though, so I skip it when I can.

You and me both! Hate to fly. Hurry up and invent teleporters somebody.
Aww, I'm pretty sure the doctor can prescribe you Valium to get you through a flight these days? I've never had an issue with flying, but my twin sister is TERRIFIED! I usually try and distract her upon take-off and landing, but I've had some near crushed fingers in the process!
I can't wait for beaming either.
No, as to a secret @ flying. Landings scar the p**s out of me. And flying just isn't as fun as it used to be. But I'd take a trip in the shuttle any day. To bad they grounded the program.
I've only been on a plane once, and it wasn't too bad, but I wasn't sitting by the window either.
I think apparating would be awesome! Though, I'd be afraid of leaving a body part behind.
Maybe Star Trek had it right.
Hello Marta,
Great post, I think I just found my new favorite blog. Love the way you write!
As for flying, I was a flight attendant for 10 years, so if I ever had any fear there I quickly got rid of it.
I discovered your site through the A to Z Challenge. I look forward to reading more!
Feel free to take a peek at my blog too if you have time. I write humor, and people tell me I’m funny (maybe it’s just the voices in my head, that’s what the doctor told me this last time when he upped my meds again).

I share your pain. I'll fly but I don't like it. I'd love to have teleportation. I wouldn't mind flying around in something like the Starship Enterprise, though. I think it has to do with the ability to move around, like a flying city instead of a cigar tube.

The secret to flying varies by individual. For some people who are afraid to fly, the secret may be taking baby steps...first by going on a ferris wheel and then on a roller coaster and then on an airplane or something like that while for other people, it may take one bold act of taking flying on face to face...Just Do It, like Nike!

Love it, love it, love it.
The fear of flying is just lack of faith spelled inside out.
I've flown helicopters, small planes, big planes and wish I had one of my own.
Blessings, Geoff.
