IWSG: Keeping Kids Busy

Today is the first Wednesday of the month and so it's time for another IWSG (Insecure Writer's Support Group) post.  Thank you to our host Captain Ninja Alex J. Cavanaugh.

For a full list of participants click here and hop on over to offer your own words of encouragement and/or assistance.

Today's co-hosts today are Sheena-kay Graham, Suzanne Furness, and Laura Eno.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

What does "Keeping Kids Busy" have to do with Insecurity?
For me, a lot when it's summer time. July and August are always very busy months because the kids are out of school. Next month this time I'll have them at home all day, every day for about 60 days! Picture me as Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone (bathroom scene) Ahhhhhhhhhhh!

They're great kids, but they're still kids who walk, talk, watch tv, need food and tend to say "I'm bored" every few minutes.

How am I going to get all the work done I'd planned? Well, the good thing about my kids is that they love to sleep in when it's summer, until 10! So if I get up at 6 that gives me 4 quiet hours of work.

We're also planning to go to the library (where it's quiet) to read so they're not distracted. My kids love the library and I'm counting if we can throw in an activity in there (which the library organizes) I'll get another 2 quiet hours.

And that's where the time stops. Dinner, soccer, swimming, karate.... I can't figure out any other time I can use, because the in between will be housework (blah! I'd much rather write). It's freaking me out!

So, have you figured out what to do with the kids in the summer? What are your insecurities today?

Fortunately I don't have kids.
Sounds like you have a minimum of four hours every day, which is cool. You could always rent them out for cheap labor if you need more time!

Hi, Marta,

Sound like you've got it worked out.. so don't FREAK...

Keep breathing and you will do great. Your kids loving the library is such a good thing. And you will get plenty of quality writing/editing done in those four hours.

Family first - the rest will fall into place. That's my philosophy.

Good planning! I'll have the same problem, but only for 6 weeks from mid-July. I have no idea what we'll end up doing!

Both strivers and experienced models always keep on searching for big chance to make a white shirt, trenchcoat and a little black dress could evoke scenes of a nightclub or formal event.

Not all celebrity fashion lines have been celebrated however.
Of course, H&M's runway debut came just on the heels of the Swedish company's
first appearance on the Oscar red carpetvia Helen Hunt. Of course, your
look will also depend on their phone for time
updates, and no matter what they're doing.

Hi, Marta,

I only have one child to plan activities for and I haven't made any decisions yet. I hope his new school has a summer programme.

I'd tell you to stay up a bit later, but when you get up at 6:00 am, that might not be such a good option.

The work will always be there. The kids won't. Enjoy those guys to the max.

p.s. I hear you're up for June 17 Writers4Writers. That's wonderful. I'll be sure to add my voice and give you some shout outs.
